BlueHub Capital’s mission—to help build healthy communities where low-income people live and work—has not changed since our beginnings in the mid-1980s; but our footprint has—from our early focus on Boston’s neighborhoods, to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and, then to the United States.
We reinvigorate communities by financing affordable housing, child and youth programs, schools and health care facilities; renovating commercial real estate in distressed neighborhoods; introducing solar power to help contain energy costs of low-income families; and lending to homeowners facing the threat of foreclosure.
BlueHub Capital’s effectiveness relies on our network of strong relationships in the communities we serve as we bring national resources that support local projects.
We raise and deploy capital from institutions, government and individuals to support projects that create opportunities in low-income communities. Since our founding in 1985, we have invested $2 billion in projects and have leveraged over $9 billion in public and private investment in underserved communities nationwide.
Our Values
To be effective we must respond to the changing needs of the individuals and communities we serve and spark the exchange of ideas among many communities and constituencies. It’s essential that we recognize and respond to the evolving needs of our constituents and the changing nature of our market.
Isolation is common to unhealthy communities and organizations. We therefore seek the intersection of multiple constituencies and work with organizations and individuals from diverse perspectives to break down economic and social barriers and help create strong communities.
Low-income communities and residents need and are entitled to high-quality expertise and services. We work to deliver that excellence through staffing, technology, and infrastructure that promote efficiency and innovation.
The culture of our organization should reflect the values we bring to bear on the work we do and the communities we serve. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we want to see in the world.”
Systemic change drives powerful, broad-reaching and long-lasting results. We seek ways to improve industry results, and to develop solutions that can be replicated on a nationwide basis.
Asking the right questions is fundamental to good leadership. As our world evolves, our questions must evolve. We endeavor to increase our awareness of the transformational shifts that affect the communities we serve and the environment in which we operate.
